Movie Review: WRONG (2013)

WRONG is the latest film from writer-director Quentin Dupieux, the guy who brought us the insane killer tire movie Rubber. My first question going into this movie was, could  this new dark comedy from Dupieux entertain me as well as the killer tire did.

This unique, trippy comedy follows Dolph (Jack Plotnick) who loses his best friend Paul which is a dog.  In his quest to find his lost dog, Dolph meets up with some really strange characters including a promiscuous pizza delivery girl (Alexis Dziena), a mentally unstable, jogging-addicted neighbor, an opportunistic French-Mexican gardener, an eccentric pet detective (Steve Little) and most mysterious of all, an enigmatic pony-tailed guru, Master Chang (William Fichtner) who teaches  Dolph on how to metaphysically reconnect with his long lost pet.

I knew something was really off when Dolph went in to work to an office environment where the employees sit at their desks while the overhead sprinkler system continuously ran, yes this was a soggy situation. The movie only got weirder from there.  These characters Dolph runs into are some strange cats to say the least. As the movie played out I started wondering if Dolph was just crazy and imagining he once had a dog named Paul or maybe Paul was actually one of his friends. There are a few other signs that were revealed as the movie played out that maybe he had lost it but I can’t tell you about all of that.  I mean, I guess Dolph was crazy in a sense but not as out there as the others in the movie, talk about a wild cast of characters!

Bottom line is, Wrong is one of the weirdest, yet entertaining and imaginative movies I’ve seen in a long time. Quentin Dupieux simply has a very unique imagination and sense of humor and makes really different kinds of movies! I think people will get  a kick out of this crazy little breath of fresh air, I sure did!

Wrong is available on VOD beginning February 1st.
