THE LEGEND OF THE PSYCHOTIC FOREST RANGER is directed by Brad Mills and stars Michael G. MacDonald, Samuel MacDonal LeMoine, Stefanie Peters, Gabe HouseRicky Newtown and Colleen MacIsaac.

I will admit that I usually tend to be a sucker for good old fashioned cheese movies that deliver both a good story and some great laughs. So when movie comes up with a title The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger, my attention was indeed hooked. A friend had told me about it and said that it was indeed a fun movie. So after finally getting a chance to view it, here is the review.

After taking a wrong turn down an abandoned road, a group of teenagers run out of gas and find themselves stranded in the middle of the woods. What a total drag. What was that noise? Why is everyone vanishing? Is it a practical joke or could the Legend be true? Your compass won t save you in these woods.

First off as a word of warning, The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger is intended to be a spoof slasher film from the 80’s. So when you watch it, the sense of déja vu and clechéd things that happen in this film were intended to be that way. Yes, a big part of what makes this film work is that it is a big mock of the 1980’s. From the fashion sense, to the lighting and even the lingo, you get that classic nostalgia feeling that came with watching older slasher films. Some of the best things out of this film were the over the top acting and dialog. You really can’t tell if the “bad” acting was intentional or if it was truly bad acting. Either way, it worked out great. Even some of the dialog like “Stay here while I check it out.” or the famous “Lets split up.” are really enjoyable throwbacks to the classic slasher movies. The only real problem I had at all with this film is that sometimes the background music was a little annoying and didn’t feel like an retro sound. It felt a little forced and too modernized. Other than that, great movie.

Overall, The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger is a must watch. I highly recommend watching it if you are a fan of movies like Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Hobo With a Shotgun or Wrestlemaniac. This is definitely a party movie that should be marathon’d with the titles that I mentioned above. No need for beer, but it would help to have some included to give it that old retro feel with your friends. I do hope that sequel to this movie does come out since it’s been far too long that an iconic slasher such as an evil forest ranger that terrorizes people that are having immoral fun. Bring back the Ranger! The movie will be available on DVD April 22nd.
