The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 was directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, with Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. She is rescued and taken to a secret complex beneath District 13 which President Snow thinks has now been destroyed. This is where she finds out that her own home, District 12, has also been destroyed. She learns about this secret rebellion that is spreading throughout all of Panem leaving her as the center piece and voice for the people. At the same time, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) has been captured by President Snow (Donald Sutherland) where he is tortured and brainwashed. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage.
The packaging comes with a slipcover. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. Both discs also feature some matching artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio for this release. Fans will be able to experience this entire franchise like never before with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) release. This features four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast.
Bottom line is, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is easily my second favorite movie of this fantastic series. Katniss finally becomes the Mockingjay and things really get intense for the hero and the rebellion that looks up to her. Things also get really tough for Peeta who is captured by President Snow and tortured so much that it changes him in a terrifying way. The story for this third entry was really fun and it took the excitement and drama to the next level. Things begin to get really dark in this movie where it rolls on over to the finale. I really like these characters that are all brought to life by this talented cast. Mockingjay – Part 1 also included more impressive special effects as it expanded this futuristic world even further. Movie fanatics that have already upgraded their home entertainment centers (screens and players) to watch 4K movies are sure to enjoy the experience, but this is also for the high-def loyalists because there’s a Blu-ray disc included for them as well. There’s also a digital copy that you can add to your Vudu library or whatever digital platform you use. The entire series is now available on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) and is definitely worth checking out.
