Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (4K Ultra HD Combo Pack)

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Sam Claflin and Jeffrey Wright.

In the thrilling sequel THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) have barely returned home after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games when they are whisked away once again by the Capitol. Forced to leave her family and best friend Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Katniss is dispatched on a victory tour of Panem with Peeta, where rebellion is seething in all 12 districts. The Capitol is enraged and ready to strike back . . . as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) prepares the most diabolical edition of the Hunger Games yet.

The packaging comes with a slipcover. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, an image and list of special features. Both discs also feature some matching artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio for this release. Fans will be able to experience this entire franchise like never before with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) release. This features four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast.

Bottom line is, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire picks up after the events of The Hunger Games with Katniss and Peeta now dealing with stardom, but of course they end up getting dragged back into President Snow’s dangerous world. This time they have to compete against other previous winners in an all-star game to the death, but they also meet some new allies along the way. More is revealed about the growing rebellion here that ultimately gives them all a fighting chance against President Snow. Sadly, he always seems to have a counter strike ready to go and he executes so things get much deadlier for Katniss and the gang in Catching Fire. The story was fun and this sequel really picked up the pace as far as the action and adventure goes. I really like these characters that are all brought to life by this talented cast. There’s more special effects in this sequel than the first one and it all looked great. Movie fanatics that have already upgraded their home entertainment centers (screens and players) to watch 4K movies are sure to enjoy the experience, but this is also for the high-def loyalists because there’s a Blu-ray disc included for them as well. There’s also a digital copy that you can add to your Vudu library or whatever digital platform you use. The entire series is now available on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) and is definitely worth checking out.
