Movie Review: TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (4K Ultra HD Combo Pack)

TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY was directed by James Cameron from a screenplay by William Wisher and James Cameron and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick, Joe Morton, Earl Boen and Edward Furlong.

In this 1991 sequel that is set ten years after the events of “The Terminator,” we meet John Connor (Edward Furlong), a young boy who is the key to civilization’s victory over a future robot uprising and becomes the target of the shape-shifting T-1000 (Robert Patrick), a Terminator that has been sent from the future to assassinate him. There’s also another model, the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a reprogrammed terminator that has been sent back to protect the boy from being killed. As John and his mother (Linda Hamilton) go on the run with the T-800, the boy forms an unexpected bond with the robot while they come up with a plan to save the human race and to stop Judgement Day.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day introduces the viewer to a young John Connor who is the target of the T-1000, a highly advanced terminator sent back from the future. There’s also future John Connor who is aware of this so he reprograms an old T-800 model and sends it back to protect young John from the android assassin. The T-800 ends up becoming an accidental father figure for young John as they go on this adventure. You still with me? The two locate John’s mother, and when they reunite, the trio go on the run from the T-1000 while they slowly come up with a plan to try and stop it. There’s also another plan in play to destroy what supposedly makes Skynet come online in the dreaded future. In the end, this doesn’t stop Judgement Day from happening as we learn in other sequels but they do save the day here in T2 plus we’re left with all kinds of unforgettable quotes from this classic sci-fi movie.

The story for T2 is all about a boy and his robot as they try to save the future of the human race. The story was interesting and all of the characters were fun to follow. We’re introduced to Edward Furlong who did a great job as a young protagonist and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his role as the killer T-800 but we get to see a much different side of him this time. The chemistry between these two characters is part of this great sci-fi movie’s charm. Arnie turns into the hero in this sequel so Robert Patrick was brought in to play the antagonist and he delivers an awesome performance as this advanced terminator from the future. Last but not least, there’s Linda Hamilton who returns as Sarah Connor and she’s become this war savvy badass who can hold her on in a fight. There’s also some amazing action scenes and stunts that help make this movie such an exciting watch and it’s all complimented by some fantastic special effects.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. Each disc features its own individual artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this 4K upgrade were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio for this release. Fans will be able to experience this movie like never before with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) release. This features four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast.

Bottom line is, Terminator 2: Judgement Day is one of those rare sequels in cinematic history that surpasses the original and there’s only been a few of them. The story was extremely interesting and all of the characters were fun to follow. This sequel is where the old T-800 changes teams and is sent back to protect John Connor no matter what the cost. Just like Star Wars, this movie was a game changer in science fiction and the special effects used in it. T2 uses a mixture of old school practical effects and CGI which was still in its infancy at the time. We get introduced to the T-1000, a highly advanced terminator made of liquid metal and even though it may be a little dated, this killer android still looks pretty cool for its age. James Cameron is a master storyteller and this movie proves it on all levels plus he gets some help from the terminator of all terminators, the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger. T2 continues to be one of the most celebrated sequels of all time because it features a great story, interesting characters and some amazing special effects. Movie fanatics that have already upgraded their home entertainment centers (screens and players) to watch 4K movies are sure to enjoy the experience. There are three cuts of this movie included on this release and I highly recommend the extended special edition version. Terminator 2: Judgement Day gets a pristine upgrade when it arrives on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) for the first time ever on December 26th and it’s a must have. “Hasta la vista, baby.
