Movie Review: MURDER WEAPON & DEADLY EMBRACE Blu-ray+DVD Combo Pack

MURDER WEAPON was directed by David DeCoteau and stars Linnea Quigley, Karen Russell, and Lyle Waggoner.

First, in Murder Weapon, two women, who have just been released from an asylum hold a party to reunite with their old boyfriends. Soon though a mysterious black clad killer begins murdering the boys in increasingly gruesome ways. Can the murderer be unmasked before it’s too late?

DEADLY EMBRACE was directed by David DeCoteau and stars Linnea Quigley, Jan-Michael Vincent, Michelle Bauer, Mindi Miller.

Then, in Deadly Embrace, a lonely and under-sexed housewife hires a studly houseman, only to begin an affair with him. But when his actress girlfriend (Linnea Quigley) comes to visit, as well as her wealthy husband (Jan-Michael Vincent), things start happening that no one would have expected…

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The reverse sleeve features an image from one of the movies. Each disc also includes its own individual artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for the high-definition disc were really good and the same goes for the standard-definition disc. There was a little grain in a few scenes but that’s about it. The sound was just right. Either movie was never released theatrically and Vinegar Syndrome restored these nudity and blood-filled direct-to-video classics from their long lost 16mm camera negatives and bring them to high-definition for the first time.

Bottom line is, Murder Weapon & Deadly Embrace were both first time watches for me and honestly I’m not really into skin flicks and erotic thrillers that go extra light on the plot. Still, Murder Weapon ended up being the best of the two sleazefests because it offered up some crazy cool special effects plus the brutal kills were full of blood and gore. It was enough to make up for Deadly Embrace which ended up being pretty much a dud in a number of ways. The only thing that these two erotic thrillers have in common are the beautiful Linnea Quigley and director David DeCoteau, who worked together on numerous films over the years. Murder Weapon even gave a sneak peek at one of DeCoteau’s other movies, Nightmare Sisters, that also stars Quigley. Hey, self-promote any way you can, right! Anway, these two erotic thrillers from 1989 are now available on Blu-ray+DVD Combo Pack, and if you’re curious, go ahead and give them a watch. It’s a two for one kind of deal!
