Movie Review: Malevolence 3: Killer (Blu-ray Combo Pack)

Malevolence 3: Killer was written, produced and directed by Stevan Mena and stars Katie Gibson, Kevin McKelvey, Adrienne Barbeau, Ashley Wolfe and Jay Cohen. Mena also edited the movie and scored the music for Killer.

Tortured and abused at the hands of his psychotic captor, Graham Sutter, Martin Bristol is dam-aged beyond repair. Lurking in the shadows of suburbia, he stalks and kills without remorse. Special Agent William Perkins follows Martin’s trail of terror, desperate to capture him before he kills again. Martin’s family, mourning his disappearance for years, is informed not only that he is alive, but that he is responsible for the wave of murder sweeping through their town. Will they be able to reunite with their long lost son before it’s too late, or will Perkins have to use excessive force to bring him down?

This 2018 third and final entry in the Malevolence saga follows Martin Brstol (Jay Cohen) who finally returns back to his childhood home where he was abducted from back in 1989. There’s some college students living in his old home and this is when the next killing spree begins. These unsuspecting girls and some of their friends become the latest victims of this sadistic killer who shows no remorse for the things he does to people.

His biological mother has moved to a new location but learns that the killer could possibly be her long-lost son but she’s warned to stay safely put. It’s an emotional process for her to stomach as Martin terrorizes the small community and leaves a trail of dead bodies behind him. In the end, just when the police think they’ve stopped Martin Bristol from causing anymore harm to others, the serial killer finds a way to walk away so he can kill another day. Maybe?

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. Each disc features its own individual artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for the high-definition disc were crisp and clear. The picture and sound quality for the standard-definition disc were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, even though Malevolence 3: Killer is the weakest entry in the slasher trilogy, I’m glad Stevan Mena was able to find a way to finish it and it’s a satisfying send off for this character. The movie suffered a real-life tragedy of its own when one of the main actors died and we didn’t know if it was ever going to be finished or not. Mena didn’t even know! It took several years for the filmmaker to come up with a plan that included some tweaking the script as well as some reshoots that would allow him to finally finish telling the story of Martin Bristol. Killer is an atmospheric slasher that features brutal kills and extreme violence but I don’t think there’s enough of it this time around because we don’t get to see as much of the carnage as the previous two. Still, it’s a good slasher (not great) that concludes the story of this mysterious serial killer who finally finds his way back to his childhood home where he was abducted from so many years earlier. Malevolence 3: Killer will be re-released on Blu-ray and DVD (with Malevolence and Malevolence 2: Bereavement) on October 15th, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the cult classic slasher.
