Movie Review: LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash (Blu-ray Combo Pack)

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash features a veteran voice cast that includes Frank Welker, Grey Griffin, Kate Micucci and Matthew Lillard .  The film was executive produced by Sam Register, Jill Wilfern, Robert Fewkes, Jason Cosler and directed by Ethan Spaulding from a script written by Emily Brundige and Aaron PreacherRick Morales serves as producer.

Scooby and the gang are back to solve a brand new supernatural crime mystery in LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash! Scooby-Doo! and his pals Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy are no strangers to solving spooky mysteries filled with all types of ghouls and goblins. This time is no different. As Scooby-Doo! and his friends are on their way to Blowout Beach for a real swinging beach party in the Mystery Machine, the Ghost Pirates threaten to ruin the gang’s good vibes. It is up to Scooby and the gang to get the party back on track, without missing a beat.

I ended up enjoying this latest animated adventure featuring Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang. This time they head out for some R&R plus Fred and Velma are determined to show the rest of the gang that they can have just as much fun as the others. Wouldn’t you know it that once they arrive at the beach a new mystery immediately presents itself. This time they’re trying to solve the case of why the beach has been abandoned and supposedly there’s some ghost pirates behind it all. As the story plays out and Mystery Inc. slowly gathers their clues to what’s actually going on, it all leads them to several discoveries – the unmasking of who’s actually behind the fiasco and that there’s a lost treasure thrown into the mix. This explains why the “ghost pirates” were trying to scare off everyone from the beach.

I liked the story for LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash that kind of reminded me of the classic cartoons from back in the day. Sure, the characters are all in LEGO form for this latest adventure but there’s also some musical moments added in just like some of the old ‘toons used to have and I really got a kick out of that. Plus, the songs were kinda catchy! Hey, you gotta love it when the song starts when Scooby-Doo and Mystery inc. are being chased around by something spooky. Jinkies! Even some of the trademark catchphrases are included as well as Scooby and Shaggy’s endless appetites. Even though this is a home video release, the animation style is just as good and highly detailed as any of the other LEGO theatrical releases from WB. To compliment the animation style are the returning voice actors who give these fun loving characters their personalities and attitudes.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of bonus cartoons. Each color coded disc also features some artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for the high-definition disc were crisp and clear. The picture and sound quality for the standard-definition disc were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash  was a cheesy good watch and it’s an animated movie that the entire family can sit down and enjoy together. There’s absolutely nothing offense about it and there’s not any of the unnecessary Hollywood agenda thrown in and that’s refreshing – especially with what’s going on with some of our entertainment these days. This one will definitely appeal to the much younger audience. I grew up watching classic Scooby-Doo cartoons and I got a kick out of seeing these lovable characters in LEGO form. The story is good innocent fun and all of the lovable characters are still interesting and easy to follow after all these years.  Scooby and the Mystery, Inc. gang hit the sand in their latest animated mystery LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash that releases on Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD Combo Pack on July 25th.
