JEEPERS CREEPERS was written and directed by Victor Salva and stars Justin Long, Gina Philips, Patricia Belcher, Eileen Brennan and Jonathan Breck as the Creeper.

For 23 days every 23rd spring it gets to eat. This 2001 horror feature follows Darry (Justin Long) and his sister Trish (Gina Philips) who are traveling on a desolate highway and headed home from college where they are nearly run off the road by a maniac driving an old beat-up truck with the unforgettable license plate BEATNGU. They witness this figure shoving what appears to be a wrapped up body down a sewer pipe so they decide to stop and investigate where Darry makes a terrifying discovery. This shocker also ends up being linked to hundreds people that have gone missing over the years. The brother and sister make their way to the closest law enforcement and unfortunately doing so the Creeper picks up their scent and really takes a special liking to Darry’s odor that is the smell of fear when it comes to this mysterious figure that is just full of surprises.

Darry and Trish have now become the targets of this ancient demon that can smell the fear of certain people it targets and feeds on them. The brother and sister do end up getting some much needed help in the form of a local psychic and a crazy cat lady. Sure, the law enforcement gets involved but they’re no help and really no match for this monster that wants to find out what Darry tastes like. The terrifying chase comes to a shocking climax when the Creeper decides to confront the entire police department on their turf where Darry and Trish are hiding and it wastes no time seizing its final victim of the movie. Poor Darry was warned about this and his ending is a tragic one.

Okay, I remember going to the theater to watch this one and had a blast with it back then and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it over the years but it’s been a lot. The Creeper came along when fans were needing a new horror icon and this mysterious creature delivered. Victor Salva came up with this fun story that focused on this brother and sister who are terrorized by the Creeper which is such an interesting and mysterious antagonist to follow and he never even has to say a word. The opening scene will creep you out!  Jonathan Breck’s movements and mannerisms are what makes the Creeper so scary and he nails it. There’s also that oldie song that will get stuck in your head but it’ll also give you the creeps after watching this movie. There’s some fantastic makeup effects used to create the Creeper along with plenty of blood and gore to go along with that.

The packaging comes with a slipcover. The front features the fantastic all-new artwork by Justin Osbourn that you see up top and the back includes movie details, an image and the impressive list of special features. The reverse sleeve features the original artwork and movie credits so you have your pick at which cover you want to use. Each disc also features its own individual artwork. Inserting the discs, the menu screens were simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this high-definition release were crisp and clear. The new 2K scan for this movie is another job well done by the always awesome Scream Factory.

Bottom line is, Jeepers Creepers was already one of my favorite horror movies and getting to revisit it on this impressive Collector’s Edition Blu-ray was an absolute blast. The 2K upgrade is really impressive. The story for Jeepers Creepers was a lot of fun to follow and all of the acting was great. The chemistry between Justin Long and Gina Philips is evident on screen and these two characters are just a lot of fun to follow in this terrifying journey of theirs. Victor Salva created such an interesting monster here and after witnessing this movie for the first time, I immediately was hooked and wanted to see more carnage and mayhem from the Creeper. This ancient monster might not be as popular as some of the other horror icons in cinematic history but it has its place with them and rightfully so. This fantastic 2-Disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray releases on June 14th and is a must have for horror fans. Go get it!
