Movie Review: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (4K Ultra HD Combo Pack)

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was written and directed by Jams Gunn and stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. The film also features Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Pom Klementieff as Mantis and Kurt Russell as Ego.

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, the film’s storyline continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians (Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket) must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.

So, when the team is hired to do a job for a golden alien race called the Sovereign, Rocket does something that gets the gang in hot water and they find themselves in an intergalactic space chase around the galaxy by these angry aliens. What happens is, Peter and his friends get some much needed surprise help from someone and it allows them to escape the wrath of the Sovereign and this is where the mystery of Peter’s father is ultimately revealed. They meet Ego, who is not only Peter’s father but a powerful celestial being with a rather odd outlook on the galaxy and how he thinks it should be. Ego has plans for Peter but when he finds out what really happened to his mother things get really uncomfortable between father and son – and a little violent. Of course the happy family reunion is short-lived because the team finds themselves up against this powerful new alien threat that is dead set on destroying the entire galaxy just to amuse himself.

In Guardians of the Galazy Vol. 2, Peter finally gets to meet his long lost father and even though it’s an awesome family reunion in the beginning, it’s short-lived and things get dangerous for the entire team. The lovable Mantis is introduced and it appears she and Drax have kind of hit it off. Talk about comedy relief, Drax is your go-to guy because he cranks out some hilarious lines in the movie. There’s also Rocket and Little Groot and they have a lot of good times together. Rocket is always looking after the little guy who isn’t the brightest team member plus he definitely has some anger issues. There’s also this friction between Drax and Little Groot that’s so much fun to watch. The second round between Gamora and Nebula takes place but we also get to see a touching moment with the two sisters.  GotGVol2 also features plenty of cameos from some big name stars and even more Marvel characters that show up. And last but not least, there’s Yondu who not only makes up for his shortcomings in the past with Peter but he gets to officially join the Guardians of the Galazy. He also has one of the greatest cinematic lines in movie history when he yells out, “I’m Mary Poppins Ya’ll.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The UHD disc features matching artwork and the Blu-ray disc has a light blue finish and features the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio for this release. Fans will be able to experience this entire franchise like never before with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) release. This features four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast.

Bottom line is, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was everything I wanted it to be and so much more. I loved the first movie so much and this one really did stay right there with it and may have even ended up being just a little better. Maybe? I haven’t been this emotionally attached to characters in a movie since Star Wars. I laughed, I cried and then I laughed some more. I love what these wonderful characters bring to the table and each team member has something important to offer. James Gunn does such an amazing job writing for these characters and bringing their exciting adventures and touching relationships to life on screen. There’s also the talented cast who does such a great job with these characters. To compliment all of this impressive work are the stunning visual effects that help bring this entire world (or in this case galaxy) to life. And to top this off there’s the fantastic soundtrack that fits the movie seamlessly. Movie fanatics that have already upgraded their home entertainment centers (screens and players) to watch 4K movies are sure to enjoy the experience. This Ultimate Cinematic Universe Edition features a collectible poster (while supplies last) and includes a 4K Ultra HD version of the film, Blu-ray, Digital Copy and more than 80-minutes of bonus materials. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be available on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) on August 15th and is definitely worth checking out. I had an absolute blast watching this fantastic sequel.
