Movie Review: FORREST GUMP (4K Ultra HD Combo Pack)

FORREST GUMP is based on the novel “Forrest Gump” written by Winston Groom. The movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay by Eric Roth and stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson and Sally Field

Experience FORREST GUMP in stunning high definition, accompanied by over two hours of dynamic bonus features. Tom Hanks gives an astonishing performance as Forrest, an everyman whose simple innocence comes to embody a generation. Alongside his mamma (Sally Field), his best friend Bubba (Mykelti Williamson), and his favorite girl Jenny (Robin Wright), Forrest has a ringside seat for the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), and Best Actor (Tom Hanks), FORREST GUMP remains one of the great movie triumphs of all time.

This 1994 dramatic fantasy adventure follows Forrest Gump, a slow-witted Alabama man with a heart of gold who shares amazing historical events that’s he experienced with some complete strangers on a bench at a bus stop. He talks about playing football for Paul “Bear Bryant at the University of Alabama, how he witnessed the presidencies of Kennedy and Johnson, surviving Vietnam, stumbling through Watergate, running from coast to coast countless times for no real reason at all, and even captaining a shrimp boat that ended up making him filthy rich.

Forrest Gump became an inspiring figure and role model that so many people followed and looked up to. But, as rich and exciting as his life was, Forrest never really cared about that part of it because his heart and attention always belonged to his childhood sweetheart, Jenny. No matter how many times she’d reject him and run away on another wild adventure over the years, he’d always be there for her when she’d fall. Forrest loved Jenny unconditionally all the way up to the very end when she introduced him to his son and he laid her to rest. Mama always said “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The UHD disc has a black finish and features the movie logo and the two Blu-ray have a light blue finish and both feature the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this new release were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio quality. Fans will be able to experience this movie like never before with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) release. This features four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast.

Bottom line is, not only is Forrest Gump my favorite Tom Hanks movie but I think it’s one of the greatest movies of all time and it’s still so much fun to watch. I love the story about this likable simple-minded man who shares his life stories with complete strangers on a bench at a bus stop as well as the unconditional love he has for Jenny. I thought the entire cast did a great job with their characters but it’s easily Tom Hanks’ show and this lovable character he portays has since become an icon of its own and even an American treasure to some. Hey, I even had a Bubba Gump ball cap when I was younger. Robert Zemeckis has directed several of my favorite movies over the years but to me this is his best work because it’s the perfect combination of action, comedy and drama. This timeless 1994 classic packs a punch with its humor as well as its heart as we follow this young man on his journey of self discovery – of sorts. Forrest Gump also features some incredible visual effects that have stood the test of time and still look fantastic – especially now. Movie fanatics that have already upgraded their home entertainment centers (screens and players) to watch 4K movies are sure to enjoy the experience. Forrest Gump will be available on a 3-disc 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) on June 12th.
