Movie Review: Digimon Adventure tri.: Reunion Blu-ray Combo Pack

Digimon Adventure tri.: Reunion was directed by Keitarou Motonaga and features the American voice talents of Joshua Seth, Mona Marshall, Vic Mignogna, Philece Sampler, Tom Fahn, Kyle Herbert, Cherami Leigh, Johnny Yong BoschJeff Nimoy, Melodee Spevack, Laura Summer, Mari Devon and Robert Martin Klein.

It’s been six years since that summer adventure when Tai and the rest of the DigiDestined crossed over to the Digital World, and nearly three years since the final battle between Kari’s second generation DigiDestined and MaloMyotismon. And, at some point, the gate to the Digital World mysteriously closed. With the gate closed, the days continue to pass, until the adventure “digivolves” once again.

The packaging comes with a slipcover. The front features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The reverse sleeve features and image and movie credits. Each disc also features some artwork and the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for the high-definition disc were crisp and clear. The picture and sound quality for the standard-definition disc were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Digimon Adventure tri.: Reunion was my first introduction to the whole Digimon craze and even though it’s not really my kind of animated adventure, I know there’s an audience for it because some of my friend’s kids love this crazy stuff. I know the story picks up several years later with the same characters that have now grown up a bit since fans last saw them and they have to go up against the latest threat to save the city. I’m also aware that most of the original voice cast also returned for this new adventure. I guess the part I like the most are the digital monsters because some of them remind me of something out of Godzilla, Pacific Rim or Power Rangers, all of which I am still very into. In my opinion, I guess there is some kind of distant kinship between them. Reunion is the first of six feature-length chapters that will be released so the fans have so much more of this sci-fi anime series to look forward to. This Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Combo Pack is now available and worth a watch if you’re a fan of Digimon.
