Movie Review: AMERICAN SNIPER Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD Combo Pack

American Sniper 3D Box Art

AMERICAN SNIPER was directed by Clint Eastwood, from a screenplay written by Jason Hall, based on the book by Chris Kyle, with Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Luke Grimes, Jake McDorman, Cory Hardrict, Kevin Lacz, Navid Negahban and Keir O’Donnell.

The movie follows Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, an American sniper who ends up serving four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq to serve his country. Kyle becomes a hero on the battlefield and something of a legend among his fellow soldiers. American Sniper not only focuses on his time in Iraq but his time at home with his wife and the children they have together. Chris Kyle was a man torn between two things, serving his country and being the father and husband his family needed him to be. Ultimately he makes the decision that his fourth tour will be his last and he finally comes home to stay with his family but this hero’s story doesn’t end here.

Oh wow was this an amazing watch. The movie covers so much of Chris Kyle’s life and journey and we get to watch him become this legend on the battlefield as well as a family man. He was definitely torn between the two and I can sort of see why. This guy spent much more time in Iraq than at home with his wife. It’s almost like he was more comfortable being a sniper than he was a father and husband and at times you noticed he brought his skills home with him. Chris Kyle was always on his guard. The entire cast was impressive and Bradley Cooper honestly became the skilled sharpshooter Chris Kyle and it was so impressive to watch. Clint Eastwood will turn 85 years old on May 31st and the legend hasn’t lost one step as a filmmaker. The director captured so many important moments in Chris Kyle’s journey and told his story as perfectly and as honest as it could be told.

American Sniper is a huge movie with a lot going on in and around Chris Kyle’s life. A lot of the movie was filmed in Muraco and the setting and location looked just like a war-torn Iraq city. Everything was just so detailed to the max, from the buildings to the local’s wardrobe. There was a huge military presence in the movie and there’s also plenty of action that includes all kinds of military vehicles (air and land) as well as bullets being fired and there are some graphic scenes to go along with all of this. There’s one particular scene with a kid that could be a little disturbing for some people but hey, it’s part of the story and we all know this stuff goes on over there. Everything is as accurate as it can get for a movie like this.

The packaging comes with a slipcover. The front features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, some images and list of extras. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. This Combo Pack includes a Blu-ray, DVD and Digital copy but a movie like this is best enjoyed in high-def.

Bottom line is, American Sniper was such an amazing watch about a real American hero, legend and patriot. I heard so many good things about this movie while it was in theaters and when I finally got to watch it, it was so much more than what I thought it would be and such a powerful and emotional watch. If American Sniper doesn’t get your blood pumping and hit you right in the ol’ ticker then you don’t have a heart or a soul. American Sniper was such an emotional watch for me and this movie truly is an instant classic! This Combo Pack releases on May 19th and is a must watch.

I already enjoyed American Sniper but after watching and listening to the cast and crew talk about the making of this movie, I ended up appreciating it so much more. Chris Kyle was still alive when the movie first got its legs. He met with Bradly Cooper and knew that Clint Eastwood had been picked to direct the movie. At first American Sniper was going to tell his story and have a happy ending and then tragedy struck when Kyle was killed by an estranged soldier so the ending of the movie had to be altered some. How can a man go and serve four tours in Iraq then come home to his family with something so sad and tragic like this happen to him?
