Movie Review: A QUIET PLACE (4K Ultra HD Combo Pack)

A QUIET PLACE was directed by John Krasinski from a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Krasinski also stars alongside Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. The film was produced by Platinum Dunes that’s run by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller.

If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you… A true cultural phenomenon that transformed the film-going experience for millions of viewers, A QUIET PLACE is a taut and original thriller that follows a family who must navigate their lives in silence to avoid mysterious creatures that hunt by sound. Knowing that even the slightest whisper or footstep can bring death, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and Lee (John Krasinski) are determined to find a way to protect their children at all costs while they desperately search for a way to fight back.

A QUIET PLACE takes place in the not-t00-distant future and follows this family that is living the “quiet life” in a rural location. There’s Lee and Evelyn and their children who have to communicate through sign language because there’s a monster lurking in the shadows and this blind creature is only able to rely on its hypersensitive hearing to help it hunt down its prey. The family actually can’t make any kind of sound doing anything in their everyday walk of life because it could draw attention to them and that’s how they’ve been able to survive so far – by playing it smart.

What happens is, simple mistakes/accidents are made and unfortunately sound comes with that so the family finds themselves up against this mysterious monster that is now hunting for them and closing in fast. The family strategically fights back against this mysterious predator but unfortunately not all of them survive the terrifying attacks. What they do discover is that the creature does actually have a weakness with its hypersensitive hearing and they’re finally able to defeat it by focusing on its vulnerable spot. They do this just in time because in the final seconds it’s teased that there are more of these monsters on the prowl.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, an image and list of special features. The UHD disc has a black finish and features the movie logo and the Blu-ray disc has a light blue finish and features the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this new release were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio quality. Fans will be able to experience this movie like never before with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) release. This features four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast.

Bottom line is, A Quiet Place is a movie that definitely lives up to its hype and delivers on the thrills and chills. It’s so hard for anything new and original to come out of Hollywood these days but every once and a while something fresh and exciting does come along. The movie is as fascinating as it is terrifying because its driven by an original concept that’s complimented by some great performances by this talented cast. A Quiet Place is terrifying because it deals with the unknown, but once the viewer is let in on what this family is so afraid of, things gets even scarier. There’s very little dialogue used in the emotionally charged fearfest so the viewer has to depend more on the character’s facial expressions and mannerisms that are all executed to perfection. I was blown away with how John Krasinski handled the story and captured the intensity and suspense as it builds throughout the watch. There’s also some impressive visual effects used to bring these creatures to life. This fantastic horror-thriller is definitely an instant classic and easily one of my favorite films of the year. Movie fanatics that have already upgraded their home entertainment centers (screens and players) to watch 4K movies are sure to enjoy the experience. A Quiet Place will be available on a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD) on July 10th.
