Movie Review: 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (4K UHD + Digital)

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is based on the novel “13 Hours” by Mitchell Zuckoff. The movie was directed by Michael Bay from a screenplay by Chuck Hogan and stars John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, Pablo Schreiber, David Denman, Dominic Fumusa, Max Martini, Alexia Barlier, David Giuntoli and Toby Stephens.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is the gripping true story of six elite ex-military operators assigned to protect the CIA who fought back against overwhelming odds when terrorists attacked a U.S. diplomatic compound on September 11, 2012. When everything went wrong, six men had the courage to do what was right.

13 Hours: The Secrets Soldiers of Benghazi follows an elite ex-military ops team that includes Jack Silva (John Krasinski), Tyrone ‘Rone’ Woods (James Badge Dale), Dave ‘Boon’ Benton (David Denman), Kris ‘Tanto’ Paronto (Pablo Schreiber), John ‘Tig’ Tiegen (Dominic Fumusa) and Mark ‘Oz’ Geist (Max Martini) who go against orders and head into the U.S diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya after they find out that it’s being attacked by hostile forces.

The men sneak into the war zone and go up against radical Islamic militants that have invaded the compound. While this heroic special ops team is trying to save lives, they’re depending on backup but not all of it arrives because certain leaders end up freezing or turning their backs during this crucial mission that’s also a race against the clock. The six brave men are against all odds as they enter the eye of the storm not knowing if the next person they meet is friend or foe but they’re able to get inside and get out but not without suffering some casualties and the paying ultimate sacrifice.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. These Ultra HD movies all come in black keep cases which helps them easily standout from the popular blue cases that have been around since day one. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The UHD disc is black and features the movie logo and the special features Blu-ray disc is light blue and features the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this UHD release were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio quality. The 4K Ultra HD disc and 4K Ultra HD Digital release feature Dolby Vision, which brings entertainment to life through ultra-vivid picture quality with spectacular colors, highlights that are up to 40 times brighter, and blacks that are 10 times darker. The film also boasts a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for the home to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead.

Bottom line is, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi ended up being an action-packed thriller that documents what went down during this controversial event that took place back in 2012. These courageous American patriots didn’t have to do this, but being the brave men they are, went into hostile territory and risked their own lives to try and save the people in danger. This is a gripping and emotional story and the movie itself is such an intense and explosive action-thriller that Michael Bay was brave enough to tackle. Bay never disappoints when it comes to blockbuster action because this movie is non-stop and it’s not for the faint of heart. The cast assembled for 13 Hours did a fantastic job with their characters and they really looked the part. This movie is based on true events that went down in Benghazi and it’s left a lot of people angry and wondering why certain leaders didn’t do more to help because they could have. I do think these certain leaders will eventually pay for turning their backs on these people in one way or another. I call it karma! Anyway, this ended up being a first time watch for me and I thought Michael Bay, his crew and this incredible cast did an amazing job bringing this story to life. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi will be available on 4K Ultra HD (and Digital) on June 11th.
