Movie Review: DON’T KILL IT

DON’T KILL IT was directed by Mike Mendez, written by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, and stars Dolph Lundgren, Kristina Klebe, Elissa Dowling, Miles Doleac, and Billy Slaughter.

An ancient evil is unleashed in a small Mississippi town leaving a trail of death and destruction as it passes from host to host. The only hope of survival lies with a grizzled demon hunter (Dolph Lundgren) who has faced this terror before. Together with a reluctant FBI agent (Kristina Klebe), he has to figure out how to destroy a demon with the ability to possess its killer.

Don’t Kill It follows Jebediah Woodley (Lundgren), an experienced demon hunter who has chased his latest target to a small southern town. This mischievous demon is able to jump from host to host with a simple kill and is a hard one to capture. Woodley teams up with Agent Evelyn Pierce (Klebe) to battle this sinister supernatural force but they find out their task is a tough one – plus it’s a pain in the ass that the locals aren’t any help at all. A lot of them just think Jebediah is crazy and nothing but trouble. Simply put, he’s the hero they don’t really want. The two form an alliance and partnership where they end up chasing down this possession creeper as it jumps from victim to victim until they finally come up with a plan to trap it. Of course this doesn’t go too smoothly so the two heroes have to improvise and do some quick thinking heroism to ultimately save the day and put a stop to the carnage.

The story for Don’t Kill It was interesting and a little different from the rest of the possession yarns we’re used to getting. This demon is able to possess its victims and when it gets ready to jump to the next person all it has to do is kill the host. Mike Mendez did a great job capturing the fun that this movie cranks out and captured all the right moments that’s a mixture of horror and comedy. The cast was led by action icon Dolph Lundgren and horror starlet Kristina Klebe and they all delivered some really good performances. These two make a great team! Anyway, the movie took place in this small southern town that served as the just right location to this exciting supernatural situation. To compliment all of this were the crazy cool special effects that were a combination of practical and CGI. We get blacked out eyes when a person gets possessed and of course there’s all kinds of blood and gore when someone gets killed. Splat!

Bottom line is, I had a blast watching Don’t Kill It that end up being non-stop insanity from beginning to end. Mike Mendez always makes these fun kind of popcorn movies that you enjoy and he didn’t disappoint with his latest. Mendez has recently cranked out features like Big Ass Spider!, Lavalantula and The Last Heist (all of which are worth checking out if you haven’t done so), and this one fits right in with this entertaining list. Dolph Lundren not only plays the Indiana Jones-type demon hunter (anti-hero) but he is also solely responsible for the movie’s humor and really delivers. One thing is for sure, he’s great playing this kind of character. Horror fans will recognize Kristina Klebe who gets to play an FBI agent and sort of the sidekick and she gets to have a little fun with the demon killing as well as have a special moment or two with Lundgren. The movie arrives in select theaters and all major VOD outlets on March 3rd and is worth checking out. This demonic horror-comedy is a lot of fun!
