Get Ready For ‘THE MUMMY’ Reboot!

Universal Pictures is planning on rebooting THE MUMMY with Prometheus screenwriter  Jon Spaihts already attached to the project.

Spathts had this to say;

I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with ‘Prometheus. To go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before.”

The Mummy has a rich history dating back to 1932 with The Mummy, followed by four sequels up to 1944, including The Mummy’s Hand, The Mummy’s Tomb,The Mummy’s Ghost and The Mummy’s Curse. 1955 saw comedians take on the curse with Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy and then the franchise  stayed quiet until the big screen reboot in 1999 directed by Stephen Sommers, the new The Mummy was followed by The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008.

The most current incarnation of The Mummy also saw a spin-off series that began on the big screen with 2002’s The Scorpion King and then moved to home video for two sequels including this year’s The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption.

One thing for sure is that this character deserves another movie and with Jon Spaihts on board I think it’s  in good hands as awesome as Prometheus looks.
