Exclusive Interview: Director Andrew C. Erin Talks About His New Film HAVENHURST
Andrew C. Erin‘s new horror film HAVENHURST hits select theaters and all major VOD outlets this Friday, February 10th. The film stars genre vets Julie Benz and Danielle Harris and is definitely one that is worth checking out. The movie deals with H. H. Holmes who was one of the first documented serial killers and puts an even more terrifying spin on his story. The director was kind enough to take a time out and let me ask him some questions about his latest project.
Alien Bee – First of all, congrats on the movie. I really enjoyed it! What was your influence for the story of Havenhurst?
Andrew C. Erin – Daniel Farrands and I were fascinated by the story of H.H.Holmes. It became our starting off point for Havenhurst. We explored the question that what if his descendants continued on his horrifying legacy in a building that he once experimented in.
Alien Bee – We get plenty of movies that feature creepy old buildings as the center piece but this one offers up something a little different and strays away from what we’re all used to. Is that what you was going for?
Andrew C. Erin – We tried to stay true to the idea that we created and the building, which was a set, took on a life of its own. We didn’t set out to do something different, we were shooting scenes that really scared us and hoped it would translate.
Alien Bee – How would you describe the movie?
Andrew C. Erin – It’s a thriller about a woman who finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her curiosity gets the better of her and she uncovers a terrifying history that inevitably becomes an even more horrifying reality.
Alien Bee – Where did you film Havenhurst?
Andrew C. Erin – We shot most of the movie on a stage in Los Angeles. We did a few days in NYC to shoot the exterior of the building and the city.
Alien Bee – There’s a lot of surprises inside this old gothic looking building. How did y’all come up with all of that trickery?
Andrew C. Erin – We took a page out of H.H.Holmes own house of horrors. Then asked ourselves what sort of improvements he might make if he had the time and resources.
Alien Bee – There’s a nice dose of blood and gore in one particular scene in the movie. Who did your special effects because it all looked great.
Andrew C. Erin – We used V.G.P. Effects and Design. Vincent Guastini is a master at his art. He heads a fantastic team and they brought their A game.
Alien Bee – How was it working with such a great cast like this?
Andrew C. Erin – It was great! I have been a fan of most of the actors for quite some time so it was a real treat to work with them. Julie was perfect for the role and is a real professional. All the way across the board we had great actors who were easy to work with and helped to make this the film that it is.
Alien Bee – Any chance of a sequel(s)?
Andrew C. Erin – Here’s hoping!
Alien Bee – Would you like to say anything to everyone checking this out?
Andrew C. Erin – I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!!
