DVD Review: The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking comes from creators Seth Green, Matthew Senreich and their Stoopid Buddy Stoodios partners, John Harvatine IV and Eric Towner, along with “The Walking Dead” creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman and showrunner and executive producer Scott M. GimpleThe all-star lineup in this horrifyingly hilarious special includes The Walking Dead cast Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Sarah Wayne Callies as well as Nerdist Industries CEO and Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick and Breckin Meyer

Following the successful releases of Robot Chicken: Star Wars Specials and Robot Chicken DC Specials, Adult Swim’s release of The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking provides fans with even more of the series that has garnered a cult-like following since its inception in 2005. Featuring provocative sketch comedy, the series has received acclaim from critics and fans, alike, with its clever pop-culture parodies and the unique use of stop motion animation of toys, action figures and dolls.

So, now Robot Chicken has spoofed AMC’s hit apocalyptic series “The Walking Dead” in its latest special and it has taken some of the most memorable key scenes from the series’ eight year run and turned them all upside down with its silly humor. Some of the main cast (past and present) have returned to lend their voices to these iconic characters of theirs that have now gotten the stop motion animated treatment that only Robot Chicken can do. There’s cheesy musical numbers, crazy “what if” scenarios and alternate outcomes/endings that are played out in stop motion and feature some sidesplitting adult themed humor. Poor Carl, always getting mistaken for a girl.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes episode details, an image and list of special features. The DVD disc also features its own individual artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were really good. I didn’t have nay issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, I’ve been watching Robot Chicken since it first hatched back in 2005 and they’ve spoofed popular franchises like Star Wars and DC Comics in their specials over the years so it was just a matter of time before they got their paws on “The Walking Dead” and the outcome is another hilarious entry. They’ve taken key scenes from the epic series and animated them with some silly new additions and outcomes along with some extremely fitting music. The stop motion is awesome, the parody is hilarious, and the best part is the fact that the cast of “The Walking Dead” all came in to reprise their iconic roles from the epic series. The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking is a 22-minute special that mashes up these two fan favorite television series and will be available on DVD on March 27th.
