DVD Review: TEEN WOLF: Season 6 – Part 1

TEEN WOLF stars Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig and Dylan SprayberryLinden Ashby, Melissa Ponzio, J.R. Bourne and Seth Gilliam. The series was developed by Jeff Davis who also serves as executive producer. Additional executive producers include Russell Mulcahy, Joe Genier, Marty Adelstein, René Echevarria, Tony DiSanto, and Liz Gateley. The “Teen Wolf” series is based on a screenplay by Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman.

Storm clouds gather as Scott and the pack head back to Beacon Hills High for their senior year of high school. However, the best days of their lives turn bleak when they lose their closest ally. Stiles is missing and a new sinister threat has come to town – the Ghost Riders. Before their time at Beacon Hills comes to an end, Scott, Lydia, Malia and the rest of their friends will take a stand against the growing darkness and fight to stop the destruction of everything and everyone they love.

Senior year kicks off and wouldn’t you know it, more supernatural drama comes a knocking for Scott, Stiles and the rest of the gang. Something is happening to everyone in town that is making them lose their memories and on top of that Stiles goes missing. The story arc for this half-season focuses on Scott, Lydia and Malia who are fighting to keep their memories of Stiles as it all slowly fades away. If they forget about Stiles, they will not be able to save him! There’s also Liam who is struggling with the fact that Scott is graduating and he’s left to carry the Teen Wolf torch in high school. We also get to see just a little more from Dr. Alan Deaton this season who offers up some advice to Scott and the gang as they fight their battle against this mysterious new threat.

Okay, Teen Wolf has been a really fun watch for six seasons now and it has never really stalled or gotten boring. Sure, there are a few things I don’t like about it but it’s also easily forgiven. After all these years the characters are still entertaining and likable and that’s hard to do sometimes after a long run like this. You gotta love the relationships between Scott, Stiles, Lydia and Malia who are the mainstays of the series, you know, besides the parental figures who can also be fun to watch at times. To compliment these interesting characters are some fresh stories for each episodic adventure they go on. As dark as the writing gets at times, there’s always a little humor just over the horizon. The special effects are really awesome for this to be a series – the visual, practical and makeup effects are very impressive and second to none. I also have to give some major kudos to the cinematography in this series because some of the shots are amazing.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes season six details, some images and list of special features. The reverse sleeve features episode listing and a shot of the main cast. The artwork on each of the three discs features three of the main characters from the series. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Teen Wolf: Season 6 – Part 1 was another exciting entry into this fantastic supernatural series that has never really stalled since it first debuted back in 2011. There have been a lot of talented people attached to this series over the years and I believe that’s the reason each season has stayed fresh and interesting. This latest half-season has a great storyline that dealt with memory loss and missing persons and that’s complimented by this amazing cast of characters who you just love to follow on these crazy adventures they go on. There’s also some really impressive special effects (visual and practical) used in this series that’s as good or better than anything we see in the movies. This half-season introduced the “Ghost Riders” who were a fantastic addition even though they weren’t quite as scary as those “Dread Doctors” we met last season. Teen Wolf: Season 6 – Part 1 is now available on a 3-disc DVD set and is definitely worth checking out. This will get you ready for the final ten episodes coming up soon.
