DVD Review: SHE WOLF (2013)

SHE WOLF (aka Mujer lobo) was directed by Tamae Garateguy from a screenplay by Diego Fleischer and stars Mónica Lairana, Guadalupe Docampo, Luján Ariza, Edgardo Castro, Nicolás Gold, Guillermo Pfening and Germán Da Silva.

Capable of shifting between three manifestations of her inner self, this cunning seductress lures unwitting men to a night of unbridled ecstasy that ends in their blood-soaked demise. The trail of bodies she leaves behind threatens to lead the police to her door but the titular she-wolf is so lost in her fractured psyche that the threat to her own safety barely seems to register. But when one of her intended victims turns out to be an undercover police detective, her frantic escape leads her into the arms of a charming young drug dealer, whose love could provide the key to her salvation.

This 2013 hot and steamy Argentinian psycho-thriller follows a beautiful seductrice who prowls the streets and subways of Buenos Aires where she lures in unsuspecting men with her beauty and charm. Once she gets them in her trap, she plays a game of sex and pain where she always comes out the winner. And when I say winner I mean she viciously kills them in cold blood.

What happens is, she finally meets her match who also happens to be a cop and he ends up surviving her attack. While all of this is going on there is actually a young man she cares about but he knows there’s something wrong with her. This relationship ends in tragedy and sets the She Wolf down a dangerous path that includes a destructive ending as well as a new beginning.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details and some images. The DVD disc also features some matching artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition black and white release were good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, She Wolf ended up being a sexy psychological thriller that follows this female serial killer who’s suffering from split personalities. Whatever strikes the mood, the crazy killer has an alternate personality for it and there’s always a man on the receiving end. Unfortunately, there’s nothing really original about the movie because we’ve gotten plenty of female-led psycho-thrillers like this befoe but it’s still an interesting watch that deals with the human psyche and unhinged emotions but it also borders on soft porn and gets extreme quite often. If you’re into that kind of stuff. I thought the movie was shot really well and the main character was fun to follow. All in all, I kind of enjoyed this atmospheric psycho-thriller by way of Argentina. She Wolf makes its DVD debut in the U.S. on March 19th.
