ONCE UPON A TIME AT CHRISTMAS was directed by Paul Tanter from a screenplay by Christopher Jolley and stars Simon Phillips, Sayla Vee De Goede, Jeff Ellenberger, Brook Fletcher and Barry Kennedy.

Meet Santa and Mrs. Claus: he’s a one-eyed lunatic, she’s a curvy, bat-swinging blonde. This serial-killer couple is splattering the holidays in a small town in upstate New York, staging one bloody rampage per night. Though the victims seem random, a mall Santa, a smooching couple, a quiet family, high-schooler Jennifer and clever cop Sam begin to unravel the sinister pattern behind the slayings. Can they stop the murders before Christmas comes and there’s no one left to celebrate? Bring home some holiday fear as Santa and Mrs. Claus go on a spree, forcing a teen girl and local cop to solve the pattern behind the mysterious murders., this horror-thriller will leave you wondering if Santa really is naughty or nice!

The formula for this one keeps everything pretty simple with a deranged Santa and twisted Mrs. Claus on the loose in this small town and killing everyone they come in contact with. At first it seems like there’s no reasoning behind the murders except the fact that they really like to do it but Santa is on his own personal mission and as the movie plays out the viewer discovers what exactly he’s up to. In the end, he locates the one person he’s been searching for but things don’t go quite as he had planned because there’s also a sheriff and his deputy who are hot on the trail and they end up stopping the gory killing spree as the terrifying night finally plays out – or do they?

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, an image and specs. The DVD disc is flat grey and features the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Once Upon a Time at Christmas was a pretty cool slasher, and if you ask me, we just don’t get enough holiday horror movies. The acting was good and the story was okay for this one but it’s easily the twisted Santa and Mrs. Claus characters that make the movie a cheesy fun watch. Actor-producer Simon Phillips does a great job playing this demented version of Saint Nick and Sayla Vee De Goede definitely pulls off a sexy cool version of Mrs. Claus. This scary version of Santa looks like he just escape a maximum security prison and Mrs. Claus looks like she could be Harley Quinn’s long-lost sister. There’s also a lot of blood courtesy of these two maniacs but some of it was CGI and that part didn’t look too good! The movie itself takes place on a cold and wintery night which is the perfect setting for a Christmas massacre. Director Paul Tanter did a good job with this horror movie so just turn those thinking caps off and have fun with it because we don’t get enough of these. Once Upon a Time at Christmas releases on DVD on December 12th and is worth a watch.
