LAST GIRL STANDING was written and directed by Benjamin R. Moody and stars Akasha Villalobos as Camryn, Danielle Evon Ploeger as Danielle, Brian Villalobos as Nick and Jason Vines as The Hunter.

Five years ago, a masked killer brutally murdered a group of friends. Since then, Camryn, the lone survivor, has struggled to reclaim her shattered life. Wracked with guilt and paranoia, Camryn leads a depressingly lonely existence until Nick, a new co-worker, befriends her and attempts to integrate her into his group of friends. But just when she might be ready to start a new life, Camryn’s past comes back to haunt her. Can she ever have a life again, or is she destined to be alone?

This survival slasher focuses completely on Camryn and the life she lives after she survives this brutal massacre that takes place in the opening scene. She’s a strong woman who lives with mental and physical scars and is so traumatized by this event that she now keeps to herself. She doesn’t trust anyone around her and she sees things. The questions is, is she seeing something real or is her imagination getting the best of her? What happens is, she reluctantly makes some new friends and they end up witnessing first hand how damaged Camryn really is.

Okay, we’ve gotten all kinds of slashers over the years but I don’t think we’ve ever really gotten one that focuses on how the final girl moves on with her life after she survives the attack. This story deals with just that and shows that even though the character survives and moves on with ther life, she’s scarred and traumatized so much that all she really does is exist and doesn’t bother with living her life anymore. There’s also a nice amount of action to go along with the nail-biting suspense. The director captures all of this intensity and the brutal nature of this film and does a really good job considering this is his first feature film. All of the acting was really good. Even though the movie is character driven, it’s still a slasher so there’s plenty of blood for the gorehounds to enjoy. “The Hunter” also sports a pretty creepy mask, too.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see up top and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The DVD disc also features some matching artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Last Girl Standing was an intense watch and impressive feature film debut by Benjamin R. Moody who captured so much dread for this terrifying survival thriller/psycho-slasher. Akasha Villalobos delivers such a powerful and impressive performance as this victimized woman that’s haunted by the horrific events she endured and lived through years earlier. This terrifying event permanently changes the young woman for the rest of her life and the viewer gets to witness it. If you have ever wondered what happens to the final girl after the end credits then here’s your opportunity because this movie takes the viewer inside the mind of the victim who is left scarred for life after she survives this brutal massacre. This is a small movie that plays really big and packs a powerful punch! Last Girl Standing releases on DVD on November 1st and is worth checking out.
