DVD Review: Jackass: The Complete Movie and TV Collection

Jackass was directed by Jeff Tremaine and stars Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Steve-O, Ryan Dunn, Brandon DiCamillo, Ehren McGhehey, Preston Lacy and Jason Acuña. The series was created by Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze and Jeff Tremaine and originally ran on MTV from 2000 to 2002 followed by seven theatrical releases from 2002 to 2013.

Even though Jackass only ran for two seasons, the controversal reality series was so popular that it had several spin-offs on the small screen that included Wildboyz, Viva La Bam, Homewrecker, Bam’s Unholy Union and Dr. Steve-O. Jackass travled the globe and featured all kinds of death-defying stunts as well as hilarious practical jokes that this group of comedic daredevils pulled on one another. All of this was mostly light-hearted and whoever was on the receiving end took the pranks well but every now and then things would heat up and get uncomfortable on set. I can only imagine how much patience they have because I don’t think I could handle it on a consistent basis. The series and movies also had plenty of famous guests who would occasionally stop by and join in on some of the fun. The boys dealt with cencorship and protests throughout their run and were limited to what they could do on the small screen so they decided to head off to the big screen. This series of movies were R rated and so popular they all got unrated cuts later on.

The packaging comes with a slipcover. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes some images, content listing and specs. The series comes in its own keepcase and includes four DVD discs that have a flat grey finish with the series logo on them. The movie collection also comes in its own keepcase and includes seven DVD discs. The first disc is black and features the skull and crossbones logo while the rest are flat grey with the logo. Inserting each disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release varies from good to great but I really didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, I had a blast revisiting this fun franchise that started off as a crazy daredevil reality series on MTV and turned into a hit movie making machine. Jackass: The Complete Movie and TV Collection includes the classic series as well as all seven movie cuts and it’s priced to own. You can pick this up and get ready for the June 1st theatrical premiere for Johnny Knoxville’s new comedy stunt movie, Action Point. Back in the day, Jackass was one of my few go-to series that I would watch and it’s a series that appeals more to the male audience than female viewers and undertandably so because it can get a little gross and extremely silly at times. I’m sure it offended plenty of people too because it had its fair share of censoring headaches and protestors. When Jackass made its move to the big screen it showed no signs of slowing down as Knoxville and the gang came up with even more insane comedic stunts to perform for their loyal audience. What this set offers is the entire franchise (television and movies) for their loyal audience. Jackass: The Complete Movie and TV Collection will be available on an 11-disc DVD set on May 29th.
