DVD Review: HEDGEHOGS

HEDGEHOGS follows a mischievous hedgehog named Bobby and a pigeon named Hubert on a wild journey. In this outrageous family adventure, Web superstars @jennxpenn (Jen McAllister) and the Smosh duo (Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox) join forces with comedy legends Jon Heder and Chevy Chase. The laughter begins as a mischievous hedgehog named Bobby leaves his wilderness home and joins Hubert, a featherbrained pigeon, on a wild, unpredictable journey. They make their way to the big city, where stressed-out humans are losing their minds. Bobby and Hubert must calm the nervous citizens by being their cute, cuddly selves.

The movie follows Bobby the hedgehog who accidentally goes on a fun adventure that includes some memory loss in the beginning, making a best friend that happens to be a fat pigeon, learning how to work as a team, and last but not least, finding true love. The young hedgebog goes through some learning curves during his adventure that ultimately helps him to build up the courage to stand up against bullies and to protect his home when everything is being threatened. Not only does Bobby have tons of fun on this wild and crazy adventure but he proves to all of his friends that he’s got what it takes to be a leader.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, more artwork and list of special features. The DVD disc is flat grey and features the movie logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were really good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Hedgehogs is geared towards a much younger audience that should hopefully get a kick out of it. The plot for the movie is all about kindness and friendship as well as saving the wild from human outsiders who are threatening to destroy it. You know, the whole conservation thing, so there is a positive message added into the mix. The animation style and design of these quirky characters is okay even though it is pretty basic looking, but it did include quite a bit of action scenes throughout the watch so there’s never a dull moment. The animated adventure has already been awarded the Dove Seal of Approval and makes a pretty fun watch for the kiddos. Hedgehogs will be available on DVD on February 13th.
