FOLLOWERS was directed by Ryan Justice and stars Amanda Delaney, Justin Maina, Sean Michael Gloria, Nishant Gogna, David E. McMahon and Emily Steward.

Beware what you share. Brooke (Amanda Delaney) and Caleb (Justin Maina, “American Ninja Warrior”), a social media celebrity couple, are celebrating their special anniversary on a camping trip deep in the woods of Sunny Florida. They plan on recording the entire trip for their fans, and Caleb even has a special surprise for her to make this weekend extra special. But they are not alone. Helpless and cut off from all communication, Brooke and Caleb are being followed by Nick and Jake, two aspiring filmmakers hell-bent on filming a documentary on how easy it is to track someone down through social media… and kill them.

This found-footage horror movie follows this fitness couple that goes on a camping trip to celebrate their one year anniversary of dating. The movie also follows two friends who’ve been secretly recording and documenting every single step the couple takes to prove a point of how easy it is to creep on people (and even kill them) when they share their entire lives online. What happens is, when the two friends decide to introduce themselves to the couple in a harsh way, a new twist is introduced into the mix that none of them see coming. Needless to say, this social media nightmare gets extremely deadly for everyone involved.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The DVD disc also features its own individual artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were okay for a found-footage film. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Followers was an okay watch that deals with the nightmares of social media popularity and the creepy trolls that come with it – along with a little added twist you don’t see coming. This found-footage thriller follows recent horror movies like Unfriended and Friend Request that deal with social media nightmares in different ways. Everybody needs to remember that everything we share online is seen by our friends as well as a lot of strangers and who knows how many of them are psychopaths. I liked the story for Followers that added a little something extra besides the creepy follower thing and the movie itself was an okay watch. There’s also some cheesy dialogue that gets thrown in close to the end during a life or death moment that I really didn’t care for. I mean, who’s got time for that when your life is on the line! There isn’t anything that’s going to blow you away but it’s good enough for a one time watch.¬†Followers will be available on DVD on May 1st.
