DVD Review: Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz: We’re not in Kansas Anymore Season 1 Volume 1

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz: We’re not in Kansas Anymore Season One Volume One is based onthe magical stories in L. Frank Baum’s original Oz book series. The animated series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Sam Register serves as Executive Producer with Jeff DeGrandis as producer.  The voice cast includes Kari Wahlgren as Dorothy and Queen Ozma, Jess Harnell as Lion, JP Karliak as Tin Man, Bill Fagerbakke as Scarecrow and Jessica DiCicco as Wilhelmina.

Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz: We’re not in Kansas Anymore Season One Volume One centers on the adventures of Dorothy after she and her friends defeat the Wicked Witch of the West.  Packed with memorable melodies, iconic Oz imagery (and of course her Ruby Slippers) that are sure to delight fans of the beloved children’s book series by L. Frank Baum and the classic film The Wizard of Oz, the series follows Dorothy after she’s named Princess of Emerald City by Queen Ozma. Dorothy embraces her royal duties with enthusiasm, bravery and farm-girl feistiness.

Dorothy is now responsible for reining in the chaos and tracking down whichever magical person, place or thing has caused mischief in Oz, and putting a stop to it. It’s no easy task however, not even for a plucky Kansas farm girl turned royal princess. With her good friends at her side, including Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion (whose newly found courage is often still fleeting), Dorothy is sure to take on her new role with great determination and captivate the hearts of everyone in Oz.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes episode details, an image and list of special features. The DVD disc also features its own individual artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were really good. I didn’t have nay issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz: We’re not in Kansas Anymore Season One Volume One continues the adventures of the young girl from Kansas who accidentally lands in Oz where she makes some strange new friends as well as a few oddball enemies. This expanded animated continuation shows Dorothy as a princess who goes on all-new adventures with her loyal friends (Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion) that takes place in the land of Oz. The series is geared towards a much younger audience and includes inspiring storytelling about friendship, lending a helping hand to those in need and even forgiveness. The basic animation style reminded me of a lot of the early morning cartoons that air on Disney and Disney Junior so there’s not a whole lot of detail that goes into it. There’s nothing offensive going on here because it’s good innocent fun. The DVD is now available and will make a good watch for the kiddos.
