DVD Review: CarousHELL

CarousHELL was directed by Steve Rudzinski from a screenplay he co-wrote with Aleen Isley and stars Steve Rimpici, Sé Marie, Haley Madison, and Chris Proud.

Duke, a carousel unicorn, hates his job. He has to let kids climb on his back and ride him for hours every day. But one kid has finally pushed him too far. Duke breaks free of his carnival hell and embarks on a bloody rampage of revenge on humanity.

This insane one of a kind carnival indie treat from hell follows Duke, a carousel unicorn who lives a dull and boring life, day in and day out, until this fat kid picks his nose and wipes it on him. This is the last straw for Duke who plunges off the carousel in search of the kid so he can get his revenge. The thing is, when Duke kills off his first victim that gets in his way, he kind of likes it, so the plastic unicorn sets out on a killing spree that finally leads him to a house party.

Duke is welcomed in by the partiers while the small group gets wild and the pizza guy waits to get paid. Hey, even Duke gets laid and this is a sex scene you’ll never forget. In the end, Duke meets his match when a cowboy mascot from the carnival shows up to put an end to his path of destruction but just when you think good ol’ Duke is down for the count – he’s back and he can even drive a car! And yes, Duke finally got his revenge on the snotty-nosed fat kid.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie synopsis, some images and list of special features. The DVD disc also features some matching artwork. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this standard-definition release were good. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, CarousHELL is everything I was hoping it would be and more. First of all, if you don’t have a sense of humor then stay far away from this one because it’s about as silly as it gets. The story follows this carousel unicorn that has had enough and decides to go on a killer spree. Yep, that about sums it up. And yes, it can talk. As far as the cast goes, some of the acting was good and some not so much. Anyway, it looks like Steve Rudzinski and company had a lot of fun making this goofy horror-comedy that definitely stands out among the rest because I don’t guess there’s ever been a movie quite like this. Don’t expect killer special effects or anything like that but just remember the cheesiness is all part of this movie’s charm. I’m gonna check this one off as so bad it’s good because that’s exactly what it is.CarousHELL is now available on DVD.
