DVD Review: A BET’S A BET

a bets a bet

A BET’S A BET (aka The Opposite Sex) was directed by Jennifer Finnigan and Jonathan Silverman and stars Mena Suvari, Geoff Stults, Jennifer Finnigan, Josh Hopkins, Kenan Thompson and Debra Jo Rupp with Kristen Chenoweth, Jonathan Silverman and Eric Roberts.

The movie follows Vince, New England’s most successful divorce attorney who meets his match with Jane, who is beautiful, successful and extremely cautious when it comes to men. Vince and his group of buddies are addicted to competition and making immature bets. Once Jane enters the picture it’s still all fun and games until Vince begins to fall for her and it takes some growing up and a few bumps for him to eventually win her over.

Okay, this is one of those movies that comes out of nowhere and ends up being really entertaining. I enjoyed the story and even though it reminded me of a few other comedies with similar plots, it was still a lot of fun. The best part  of the movie is easily the amazing cast assembled here and there’s all kinds of cameos. I loved all of the crazy betting and wagers that got way out of hand at times and always put someone in a really awkward situation.

The relationship between Vince (Stults) and Jane (Suvari) was a fun to watch as it grew and the two of them got closer. At first Jane just thinks that Vince is just another hound and there’s good reason behind that. Vince on the other hand learns why Jane keeps her distance and this is where he begins his turn around. The neat thing is, as their relationship changes, it’s all fun to watch throughout the entire movie until the very end. To me, A Bet’s a Bet was pretty much more adult version of Cougar Town and I know some of this is simply because of some of the cast is in the movie and then there’s those crazy shenanigans.

The packaging features the artwork you see up top. The back includes movie details and some images. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this DVD release were both really good.

Bottom line is, A Bet’s a Bet was an entertaining comedy that literally came out of nowhere. Jennifer Finnigan and Jonathan Silverman have put together a really fun little comedy with a lot of heart and a fantastic cast. This DVD releases on January 20th and if you’re looking for a few good laughs I BET you’ll enjoy this one. See what I did there?
