Blu-ray Review: The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eleventh Season

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

THE BIG BANG THEORY was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady who also serve as executive producers with Steven Molaro. The sitcom stars Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Kaley Cuoco as Penny, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, Kunal Nayyar as Raj Koothrappali, Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski and Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler.

Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists – geniuses in the laboratory but socially challenged everywhere else. Insert beautiful, street-smart neighbor Penny, who endeavors to teach them a thing or two about the “real” world. Despite their on-again, off-again relationship history, Leonard and Penny have tied the knot. Even Sheldon has entered into a “Relationship Agreement” with neurobiologist Amy, and he recently took their relationship to the next level by proposing marriage. Will the possibility of domestic bliss alter the chemistry between these two extreme achievers? Will Leonard prove to be a brilliant writer? Will Raj’s search for new love rival his search for new stars in the cosmos? Will Howard and Bernadette’s growing family reach critical mass? Quantum comedy continues to converge in all 24 Season Eleven episodes of this laugh-out-loud megahit.

The writing for this fan favorite sitcom hasn’t lost a step in its eleven year run – now getting ready to premiere the twelfth and final season. Season eleven focuses on the group of friends who are now dealing with their relationships, a new marriage that’s in the works and growing families, except for poor Raj who just can’t get a break when it comes to relationships. Raj goes through a few prospects in his desperate search to get a date for the wedding. Howard and Bernadette already have a baby and end up with a shocker when they find out another one is on the way. The relationship between Leonard and Penny has lost a little of its magic over the years but these two are still the conscience and anchor between this group of friends. There’s this wonderful innocence when it comes to Sheldon and Amy and that’s part of this season’s charm as we watch them finally get engaged and ultimately tie the knot in the finale.

The chemistry is still there with this talented cast and it definitely shows on screen. It’s always interesting to see what the socially awkward Sheldon is going to blurt out and come up with next and how his friends or strangers are going to react to it. Even though we’ve met the entire family of Coopers in Young Sheldon, there’s still some mystery when it comes to one of the family members but that ends this season when Sheldon’s older brother Georgie finally makes an appearance. The Big Bang Theory is known for its cameos and the eleventh season featured the return of Wil Wheaton, plus Bill Gates, Jerry O’Connell, Mark Hamill, Kathy Bates and even Neil Gaiman made an appearance in Stuart’s comic book store.

The packaging comes with a nice slipcase. The artwork on the front features the main characters as you can see at the top of the page and the back includes season eleven details, some images and the impressive list of extras. There’s also an insert inside that includes a list of the episodes with synopsis, more images, and series credits. Each Blu-ray disc also features some etched artwork and the series logo. Inserting the disc, the menu screens were simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this high-definition release were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eleventh Season was another fun entry into this long-running sitcom that centers around these nerdy friends. The writing for these fan favorite characters is still really fresh and sometimes that’s a little hard to pull off after a series lasts as long as this one has. This season’s main focus was Sheldon and Amy’s wedding but the lead up to that and misadventures were a great leadin to what we never thought we’d see take place – Sheldon Cooper getting married. Just like previous seasons, this one also featured some great cameos that nerds and geeks will definitely appreciate. After all these years, The Big Bang Theory still has that comedy magic and is still “Must See TV” as far as I’m concerned. It’s easily still the best comedy on television. I’d also like to add that there’s not another series that features the chemistry that this amazing cast has and it shows on screen. I’ve invested a lot of time with these wonderful characters over the years and honestly had a blast with the eleventh season. The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eleventh Season will be available on a 2-disc Blu-ray set on September 11th and comes highly recommended for nerds and geeks alike.
