Blu-ray Review: SATANIC PANIC

SATANIC PANIC was directed by Chelsea Stardust from a screenplay by Grady Hendrix and stars Hayley Griffith, Ruby ModineRebecca RomijnArden Myrin, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Jordan Ladd, AJ Bowen and Jerry O’Connell.

In SATANIC PANIC,  Sam’s (Griffith) first day as a pizza delivery driver is not going according to plan. At the end of a long day and not enough tips, her last delivery turns out to be for a group of Satanists looking for someone to sacrifice. Now in a fight for her life, Sam must fend off witches, evil spells and demonic creatures, all while trying to keep her body – and soul – intact.

The story for this unique horror-comedy centers around Sam, a pizza delivery driver who ends up dropping some pies off at the wrong house. She doesn’t get a tip and decides to go inside the big house to collect which ends up being a big mistake because she walks right in the middle of a devil worshipping cult, led by Danica Ross (Rebecca Romijn), that’s preparing for a rutual. They’ve been looking for a virgin, and guess what, Sam’s one and this is when she becomes the accidental main attraction.

The night gets extremely crazy and somehow Sam eludes her attackers for a while where she ends up befriending Danica’s daughter Judi (Ruby Modine) who doesn’t really fit in with her mother’s evil click. The two run around in hysterics and dodge several near death experiences. They fight back for as long as they can but Danica and her sinister flock of sheep finally catch them and begin the ritual. Of course, this also doesn’t go as planned and ends up backfiring on the unstable cult which allows Sam to finally escape this nightmarish life-changing experience that she’ll never forget. Don’t worry, I left out a lot of the good stuff so nothing is really spoiled for you.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The Blu-ray disc also features some artwork that matches the front cover. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this high-definition release were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Satanic Panic was already one of my favorites of 2019 and I had a blast revisiting this wild and crazy horror-comedy. The story about this pizza delivery, girl next door-type who accidentally becomes the center piece for this devil worshiping cult all because she wanted a freaking tip was interesting to say the least. I thought the cast did a great job with their characters with the standouts being Hayley Griffith who’s adorable as this victimized survivor and Rebecca Romijn who’s as evil as they come. Be sure to check out my interview with Hayley Griffith and keep your eye on her because she’s gonna blow up. I do have to add that Jerry O’Connell was a hilarious trip with what little screen time he was given. The movie is loaded with old school practical effects and gross out gags and I thought it all looked awesome. All in all, Chelsea Stardust has not only delivered one of my personal favorites of 2019 but I think this female driven horror romp is destined for cult status because it’s so much fun. Satanic Panic will be available on Blu-ray on October 22nd, just in time for Halloween.
