Blu-ray Review: Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town

Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town was written and directed by Christian Papierniak and stars Mackenzie Davis, Alia Shawkat, Haley Joel Osment, Carrie Coon, Alex Russell and Annie Potts.

Riot grrrl rocker and shameless hot mess Izzy wakes up hungover AF to find out that her ex-boyfriend is celebrating his engagement to her ex-best friend tonight at a bougie party across town. Enraged and desperate, Izzy embarks on a frenetic quest across Los Angeles to break up the party in order to fulfill what she believes to be her destiny … before it’s too late. A favorite from the festival circuit, Izzy Gets The F*ck Across Town is a delightfully chaotic indie comedy that showcases the absurdity and mayhem that is Izzy’s life.

The movie follows Izzy who is nothing more than a chain smoking hot mess who lives a reckless lifestyle and makes bad decision after bad decision. She finds out that her ex-boyfriend is getting engaged to her ex-best friend so she breaks out in panic mode to see if she can crash the party. She thinks it’s a mistake and wants one last chance with him but getting to him is the hard part because she desparately needs a ride. She makes stop after stop to see if any of her friends will help her get across town but she’s burned several bridges and already owes some favors to most of them. When Izzy does finally makes it to her destination and has her little one on one with her ex, she has a last minute revelation… I can’t tell you what this revelation is or I’d be ruining it for you.

The front of the packaging features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The reverse sleeve features an image from the movie. The Blu-ray disc also features some artwork that matches the front cover. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for the high-definition disc were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town was an okay watch but nothing really special. If I could describe the movie, I’d call it a dirty little indie comedy that has a great cast. It’s aggravatingly funny because we all know someone like Izzy who lives a reckless life and makes terrible lifestyle choices that sometimes affect others. While I call this movie a mediocre comedy at best, I can add that Mackenzie Davis delivered with her unlikable hot mess of a character. She’s believable as this character, that’s for sure. Anyway, it’s a low budget indie comedy that will probably appeal mostly to college student cinephiles and a few of those pesky millennials, more than anyone else. You can give it a try to see what you think, no harm in that. Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town will be available on Blu-ray on September 25th.
