Blu-ray Review: IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY

IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY is a war drama set in 1090’s war torn Bosnia. The movie is centered around Danijel and Ajla, who find love but at the wrong time and place in life. Danijel is a soldier fighting for the Serbs and Ajla is Bosnian artist who becomes a prisoner of war and is held in the camp Danijel oversees. The two had met very early in the movie before the war begins and now they meet up again, under different circumstances and this sets up the heartbreaking story of love and what if.

Watching Danijel care  for and watch over Ajla is touching when you see the brutality and uncaring nature of the other soldiers with how they treat the other women prisoners. Rape, abuse and other unspeakable crimes are committed to these poor women. Their relationship is always uncomfortable as they always have to hide it from everyone else.  As the movie plays out their relationship becomes very stressed even though it’s clear they care for one another but being on separate sides ultimately plays a very dark role by the end of the movie.

The movie pretty much covers everything, from road side bombs, gun attacks as well as how the snipers take innocent civilians out for simply walking down the street. People’s homes and privacy are invaded and if they look or act the wrong way or say the wrong thing they are simply shot in the head. So the movie is a drama but has some actions sequences for people looking for that element.

In The Land Of Blood And Honey was a surprisingly great watch! The cool thing about this Blu-ray + DVD Combo pack is it allows the viewer to watch the movie the movie actually shot in  the authentic language version on Blu-ray and the never-before-seen English language version on DVD. Some of the accents are a little strong but it’s easy to get through.  Angelina Jolie proves she can write and direct in this debut effort and she did a great job! This movie is one that stays with you and in your heart! The actress turned writer-director is known for being an activist and it’s no secret she’s raising more awareness by making this movie. It has has allowed her to reach a whole new audience and get the message out of what went on during this terrible war and the uneasy peace that goes on today.

In The Land Of Blood And Honey is highly recommended! Jolie is perfection, the all-Bosnian cast is perfection in this touching war drama.  The movie is available now and you can purchase the movie HERE or by clicking the image at the bottom.
