From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series – The Complete Season Two stars D.J. CotronaZane HoltzEiza GonzálezWilmer Valderrama, Jesse GarciaMadison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo and Jake Busey. Season two guest stars include Briana Evigan, Jeff Fahey, Danny TrejoEsai Morales and Demi LovatoThe impressive list of directors for season two includes Robert RodriguezDwight H. LittleJoe Menendez, Alejandro Brugues, Carlos Coto and Eduardo Sánchez.

Season two picks up right after the events of the first season where everybody left in different directions. It still centers on bank robber Seth Gecko (D.J. Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother Richard “Richie” Gecko (Zane Holtz) who are now split up. Seth is with Kate (Madison Davenport) and they’re scraping by as small time criminals south of the border and Ritchie is still with Santánico (Eiza González) and the two have now become partners in crime, resembling a more modern version of Bonnie and Clyde. There’s also Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia) who is now obsessed on protecting his wife and young daughter. Carlos Madrigal (Wilmer Valderrama) wasn’t supposed to survive the tests (and punishment) of the Labyrinth but he emerges a changed man and even more of a monster than he was before.  Kate’s younger brother Scott (Brandon Soo Hoo) even returns but we learn that he still has a some good left inside him.

Season two also introduces even more villains for Seth and Richie to deal with. First up is The Regulator (Danny Trejo), a horrifying agent of evil summoned to perform a deadly errand and Lord Amancio Malvado (Esai Morales), a figure of terrifying cruelty and power who has a complicated and obsessive relationship with Santánico. Season two also introduces Seth and Richie’s super cool Uncle Eddie (Jeff Fahey) and you can definitely see where they get it all from. Uncle Eddie is a fun loving former crook who gets sucked into this dark world his nephews live in. There’s also Sonja (Briana Evigan) who Seth meets up with and at first she seems like she fits right in but Sonja has a big secret that she pretty much keeps through the majority of the season. She pretty much plays her Ace when the time is right and it leaves Seth disappointed and even a little angry.

It’s fun watching Richie and Santánico and the chemistry they have. The two plot vengeance on Lord Amancio Malvado who imprisoned her a long time ago. The viewer gets to play catch up on this through a number of flashbacks. It takes five episodes but Seth and Richie finally reunite and at first it’s an uncomfortable meeting but the two brothers realize that they really do have each other’s back and with the help of Uncle Eddie and a few of their friends, they go up against these deadly enemies of theirs. First up is Carlos who ends up abducting Santánico  thinking that she belongs to him. Kate enlists Freddie’s help to try and save her Scott and this is where the Lords of the Night are introduced. What’s uncovered during all of this is a big payday that Seth and Richie want to get their hands on. They all end up going up against the sinister Lord Amancio Malvado and a much deadlier Carlos that leaves the small group of anti-heroes changed forever.

I really loved where they took these characters in the second season and was wondering how it would be handled since the first season pretty much was a rehash of the cult classic movie – with a little newness thrown in for originality. The first half of season two keeps the brothers separated while they simply try to survive and of course get into a little more trouble while doing so. It’s almost like trouble follows these two. The writing for the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn continued to be completely fun and original while staying true to the foundation that the movie laid. The stories not only deal with these anti-heroes going up against these monsters but we get to see the relationships grow as well as some betrayal and twists thrown in. Things definitely get more complicated in season two as more villains and deadly obstacles are introduced. We also learn more about certain characters through key flashbacks.

In season two, we see the end of the mainstay Titty Twister bar believe it or not but waiting in the wings is the new stop – Jacknife Jeds. The explosive goodbye to the Titty Twister serves as sort of a new lease on life for Carlos. He cuts his ties with his past completely and heads in a completely new direction. All of these characters are so much fun to follow, especially the Gecko brothers. The locations are fantastic. The cinematography is absolutely amazing! And to top all of this off, the special effects are incredible. The makeup effects that bring these scary looking Culebras to life looks crazy cool. In case you didn’t know, Culebras are part snake and part vampire. There’s also some cool looking CGI and visual effects and lots of blood and gore. Even the cool cars are back in season two!

The packaging comes with a slipcover. The front features the artwork you see up top and the back includes season two details, some images and special features. The reverse sleeve features a list of all of ten episodes and the synopsis for each one, along with the impressive list of extras. The three discs feature artwork that includes a main character on each one. Inserting each disc, the menu screens were simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this high-definition release were crisp and clear.

Bottom line is, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series – The Complete Season Two ended up being a fantastic continuation that entered into all new territory for these interesting characters. It was fun watching Seth and Richie go their separate ways and experience their own adventures but it was really cool once the two brothers reunited to go up against these much bigger threats. Not everybody makes it out alive but in this gritty universe that doesn’t always mean we haven’t seen the last of them. There is one particular loss that also sets up the third season and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. Did I mention how sexy this show is because it is a damn sexy watch! It’s a sexy horror western full of interesting characters, lots of action and demons! This 3-disc Blu-ray set arrives on February 2nd and is definitely worth checking out. If you enjoyed the first season then you’ll really dig season two!
