Blu-ray Review: CHRISTINE (Limited Edition)
Twilight Time will unleash the horror classic CHRISTINE on Blu-ray on March 12th and there will only be 3,000 copies available, after that all gone. I had the opportunity to review this (Limited Edition) release and all I can say is buckle up because Christine is back and this time she’s in high-def!
Director Jon Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) adapts Stephen King‘s 1983 horror novel, Christine, about a vintage car with a (jealous) mind of her own. Keith Gordon stars as high school nerd Arnie, newly infatuated with a decrepit Plymouth Fury; as he painstakingly restores his beloved car, he find his devotion returned, and then some, in a matter that swiftly turns from peculiar to downright dangerous. Not that Arnie cares: even as Christine is transformed, so is he, from classic geek to Mr. Cool. Also featuring John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, and a host of terrific actors: Robert Prosky, Roberts Blossom, and Harry Dean Stanton.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat down and watched this horror classic over the years and being able to now watch it in high-def is just awesome. The transfer (audio and video) is crisp and clear making it look and feel just like a new release.
The cool standouts on this release are the special features and there are plenty of them! I lost count of how many deleted and alternate scenes there are, guessing I’d say maybe 20 or so. Yeah, that’s a lot and seeing some cut footage from a horror classic like this makes it even more special. You’ll see the list of specs after the jump and they are all standouts. I also thought that the nice menu was a cool addition, really smooth looking and easy to navigate.
The Blu-ray case itself is also nice, with some cool artwork features on the front with your basic info on the back. When I opened the case I saw that same cool artwork on the disc and next to it was this cool booklet that features a detailed synopsis of the movie, along with a few images from the movie, stills and behind-the-scenes shots. There’s also the retro theatrical poster on the back page of the booklet. This booklet was a really nice touch to an already awesome Blu-ray release.
Bottom line is, this (Limited Edition) Christine Blu-ray is as close to perfection as you’d want to see a horror classic like this get. The Blu-ray releases on March 12th and comes highly recommended but you better act fast because there are only 3,000 copies and when they’re gone, they are all gone!
