Blu-ray Review: ARMED RESPONSE

ARMED RESPONSE was directed by John Stockwell from a screenplay by Matt Savelloni and stars Wesley SnipesAnne Heche, Dave Annable, Kyle Clements, Eyas Younis, legendary rocker Gene Simmons from KISS and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.

The nail-bitting action-filled film follows an elite team of operatives who must escape from an isolated military compound after being trapped among an unidentifiable threat. A team of highly trained operatives find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. The crew begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover what killed the previous team.

Armed Response follows this special-ops team that is sent on a mission to investigate a covert military facility that’s run by an A.I. Once the team arrives, they find themselves trapped inside the facility and some strange things begin to happen all around them. We’re talking strange things that turn deadly! A supernatural element is introduced and it seems like it’s out to get them, but why? This facility’s A.I. has evolved on its own and not only has the ability to read people’s thoughts but it’s now able to expose their pasts as well and that’s the big twist to this story. Not everyone on this team is good and there’s a key moment in their past that’s ultimately exposed and this is where the sides are split. This top-secret engagement turned nightmare ultimately becomes a fight for survival as well as a mission of revenge for some of those trapped inside.

The packaging comes with a slipcover/o-card. The front features the artwork you see at the top of the page and the back includes movie details, some images and list of special features. The Blu-ray disc also has artwork that matches the front cover. Inserting the disc, the menu screen was simple and easy to navigate. The picture and sound quality for this high-definition release were crisp and clear. I didn’t have any issues with the video and audio.

Bottom line is, Armed Response was a pretty cool watch even though the story was kind of messy. Or maybe it was the editing? This is one of those kind of movies that some viewers may have to watch more than once to understand what’s actually going on inside this highly advanced facility. The movie starts out as a full blown action-thriller and half way through it introduces a new sci-fi element with the whole A.I. thing. John Stockwell keeps busy these days cranking action movie after action movie and this one here isn’t that bad of a watch if you pay close attention to what’s going on. What will save it for many viewers is the fact that Wesley Snipes, Anne Heche, Gene Simmons and Seth Rollins all have built-in fan bases that will give this movie a try. Some will dig it and some not so much because Armed Response is an acquired taste and a little confusing at times but it is full of action and suspense. This first venture between Gene Simmons’ new production company Erebus Pictures and WWE Studios will be available on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD) on October 10th and is worth a watch.
