Blu-ray Review: 6 SOULS

6 souls blu

After the death of her husband, Dr. Cara Harding’s (Julianne Moore) faith in God has been shaken, but not her belief in science. In an attempt to open her up to accepting unexplainable psychiatric theories, her father introduces her to Adam, a patient with multiple personalities who takes on some of the physical characteristics of his other personalities. But, Cara quickly discovers that Adam’s other personalities are murder victims and the more she finds out about him and his past, the closer she and her loved ones are to becoming murder victims themselves.

6 SOULS (formerly known as Shelter) is directed by the team of Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein and stars Julianne Moore, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jeffrey DeMunn , Nathan Corddry, Brooklynn Proulx and Brian Anthony Wilson.

The movie centers around Cara, a therapist and her new patient Adam who suffers from multiple personalities. Each personality is wildly different from the other and the thing is, more personalities keep surfacing which brings Cara to investigating more about Adam and these murder victims who are somehow linked to him and his growing secret.

Cara’s father, brother and her daughter get drug into this creepy situation, to the point where it becomes really dangerous with Adam and his deadly situation.  She uncovers a horrible secret about Adam and his past and the reason he has these growing personalities within him.  What happens is there are certain people who begin to cough up soil when they have been marked and eventually their souls are taken from them, see where I’m going with this? This leads Cara to seek out and find this old gypsy looking voodoo lady where she learns more about what’s going on. Cara also uncovers more horrifying news about Adam and his past that goes way back.  There is this uneasy confrontation with Adam at the end with Cara and her daughter and it is a haunting and deadly confrontation that leaves everyone changed forever.

OK, I have to say that this is a pretty haunting movie with some great performances, especially from Jonathan Rhys Meyers who pulls off these crazy personalities to perfection. One minute he’s Adam, the next he’s some mysterious dark figure and he even becomes an older gentleman and even a young kid and he pulls them all off without a hitch! There’s also some really creepy movements and neck breaking, twisting or bending that adds to his already amazing performance when he changes in and out of personalities.

There really aren’t any jumpy scenes in the movie even though everything about Adam is creepy, you just have to keep your eyes on this guy all the time.  There really isn’t any blood or gore in the movie but it does include a few uncomfortable punctures along the way and this coughing up soil thing just looked nasty!  There’s also a few creepy looking characters in it besides Adam and his personalities that really helped out with the dark haunting factor of this film.

Bottom line is, 6 Souls was a really great watch and I think a lot of horror fans will hopefully enjoy it as much as I did. This Blu-ray releases on July 2nd so add it to your list of movies to watch because it is a good one!
